This page explains what we collect when you take the A Letter to Money survey, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We wrote it in plain words on purpose.

Who we are

A Letter to Money is a book by Dylan Ander. This survey is research for the book. Dylan is the person responsible for your information.

What you give us

  • Your answers to the survey questions, including anything you type, like your letter to money.
  • Your first name and email, only if you choose to give them on the last screen. We keep them in a separate place from your answers.
  • What you told us about being quoted in the book.

What we record on our own

  • Which screens you reached, and when. This record never includes what you answered.
  • Where you came from, if the link you clicked said so. For example, the name of a newsletter.
  • A random code saved in your browser, so you can pick up where you left off. It is not linked to your name.
  • A scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address. We use it to stop spam and repeat entries. We do not keep your IP address, and the code cannot be turned back into it.

Why we collect it

  • To understand how people feel about money, for the book.
  • To quote a few short lines in the book, only if you said yes.
  • To get in touch about the book, or about a follow-up, only if you gave your email and said that was OK.
  • To keep the survey safe from bots and spam.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for ads.

Who can see it

Only Dylan, the author, can see your answers and your details.

A few companies help us run the survey. One stores the data. One checks that visitors are people and not bots. One sends the emails you ask for, like the link to delete your data. They handle your data only to do that job.

The bot check is Cloudflare Turnstile. To do its job, Cloudflare sees your IP address and some details about your browser. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers that.

AI tools

To help find themes in what people write, we may use outside AI services. The text of your answers may be sent to them to be analyzed. They process it under their API terms.

We never send them your name or your email.

Please do not write names, or other details that could identify you or someone else, in your answers.

How long we keep it

We keep your answers for the research for the book, until they are deleted. The small counters that stop spam are removed after a few days.

Adults only

You must be 18 or older to take part, and the survey asks you to confirm that. We do not want answers from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please do not take part.

Deleting your data

If you did not give an email, your answers are anonymous. That means we have no way to find them again, so we cannot delete them one by one. That is the trade-off of being anonymous.

If you gave your email on the last screen, you can delete everything we hold about you. We email you a link. When you open it and confirm, we permanently delete your answers, your name and email, your quote choice and your screen history. Then we email you to say it is done.

Deleting cannot be undone. If you take the survey again later, that is a new response.

Your other choices

You can skip any question and stop at any time. If you gave your email, you can also write to us to ask for a copy of your details, or to fix them.

Changes to this page

If we change how we use your information in a big way, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top.
